Kicking things off with a bang!

Call of Sirens on the brink of dropping their debut EP Gaia, here's our thoughts

Leilani Hopuare, Andy Bawden, Nick Karp and Connor Burt make up the four piece that is Call of Sirens. Their debut EP Gaia, the Greek names for mother nature, aims to cover the theme of the death and struggle of the feminine, seeking to find the balance again in one's self and in the natural world around us and abandoning the world of man in favour of the mother. From the EP’s art to the lyrics Call of Sirens have created an earthy gritty tone that fits their theme to a t. The music is jam packed of these monstrous sounds with the ep holding its weight, never failing to keep up with the sheer pace of the music. The massive sound this bands managed to create is jaw droppingly impressive, especially considering this is their first piece of collective work

Starting with a bang, the monsters open the EP with a huge sound. The opening guitar riff is one to get stuck in your head for days and sets up that pace and sense of urgency the EP gives.

This is followed by the first release from this EP. Kenopsia definitely set the tone of the EP. I especially love the writing of the drums and bass in this song, really supporting the drive of the song. The bass line is so creatively written and really gives it an old school rock feel of a brilliantly melodic bass line.

A Stranger really brings that retro vibe of the album to life, a song that wouldn't feel out of place in the late 70s or 80s. The chorus is really one to blast at full volume and gives the perfect feel to headband and sing at the top of your lungs in the shower. Hopuare’s and Karp's lyrical writing in this song encapsulates the theme of the album, mixed with her vocal performance, as flawless as all the other songs on the EP, makes this one of my favourite tracks off the EP.

Gravel tree closes the EP with an emotional and nostalgic crescendo. Again the deep melodic bass contrasting with the guitar and the angelic vocals leaves a particularly indelible impression, perfect to finish up the EP.

Its hard to believe that this is an debut EP and with their upcoming tour this is definitely a band to try and see.If you weren't lucky enough to get tickets to see Paramore on their comeback tour this would be the small band equivalent, with a very similar sound to early Paramore, Evanescence and Wolf Alice without losing any of this amazing authentic raw rock sound Call of Sirens never seem to fail to bring.
